The Society of Antique Modelers owes its roots and continued existence to a group of talented individuals who, over time, have been dedicated to designing, building and flying model airplanes, and those who have supported the SAM movement, dedicated to keeping the art alive. To this end SAM maintains a "Hall of Fame" wherein these individuals are honored and remembered.

Each year, current SAM members propose candidates to the SAM Board of Directors, who select the inductees for that year. The induction takes place during the Awards Banquet at the conclusion of the SAM Champs. The specific criteria for selection is included below.

Selection for the Hall of Fame is made by vote of the SAM Board of Directors (the President, Treasurer, Secretary and the four regional Vice Presidents). The new Hall of Fame inductees are announced at the SAM Champs each year.

Nominations of candidates for the Hall of Fame can be initiated by any SAM member. The nominating petition should be sent to the President of SAM and must be accompanied by individual letters from three SAM members stating why they believe the candidate should be elected to the Hall of Fame.

The criteria used for election to the Hall of Fame are as follows:

1. The candidate was a well known model designer, engine maker, or competitive flyer or contributor to aeromodelling during the Golden Age (i.e. 1925 to 1942).
2. The candidate made significant contributions to the formation of SAM and to the revival of old timer modeling.
3. The candidate was very successful in SAM competitions, both regionally and nationally.
4. The candidate made significant long term contributions to the SAM organization whether it is at the local chapter level or on a regional or national basis, including service as a SAM officer or organizer or at the SAM Champs.
5. The candidate made significant contributions to the SAM movement either as a writer, publisher or promoter of OT modeling, or as a cottage industry supplier for items needed for OT modeling.

Induction into the SAM Hall of Fame takes place at the SAM Champs held in the fall of each year. While petitions nominating a candidate for the Hall of Fame may be submitted at any time, but the Board will normally use a “cut off date” of April 30 for consideration of nominees for the Hall of Fame in that particular year. Petitions received after that date each year will be held for consideration for the following year.
