Contest Rules
The Propstoppers, SAM 76 in Delaware County Pennsylvania, were the first team to fly. We did so on the occasion of our annual Electric Fun Fly that was held on the hottest day of the year. The heat did nothing for thermal activity, just uncomfortable conditions for long flights
.
Dave Harding and Dick Bartkowski flew their Champs models to personal best flights in the light airs and aerobatic flyer Paul Grothman was glued to his chair to complete the team effort with, for him, a dull long flight. We then waited for the weeks to pass to see if we triumphed.

SAM 117, The Electric Mafia; Glen Poole, Jack Hiner and Steve Moskal, were next up but were unable to improve on the Propstoppers performance.
At SAM 27 we knew we had an advantage in fielding a large team including some experienced fliers. We had nine pilots in California, one in Louisiana, and one in France, But as the last to fly, we knew the times we had to beat. At our team practice day in poor weather our times did not look good enough to win. On our contest day, 17 September, the weather was windy and not encouraging. Two planes were lost in downwind incidents and the remaining times were not competitive. At noon we relaunched in much better weather which lasted a couple of hours. Dick Irwin and I played glider pilots, flying high and fast. We were able to stay upwind with the sun behind us and made good times. The burst of good California weather definitely helped us. However our 3rd and 4th best times were made in Louisiana by Mike Kilmer, and Gianco Lusso flying in France. Since we now have the job of organizing the Electric Texaco Postal Contest next year, we will be contacting you about what rules we should adopt. Thanks to everybody who competed and helped out, and good luck to those of you flying in the SAM Champs.
