This is a preliminary announcement for the 6th European SAM RC Assist Champs. The date and place is set as below. The purpose of this early announcement is to invite the US, and indeed other like minded people to join us on this adventure.

In addition to the Champs we are arranging for a group booking on a seven day cruise from Venice to Croatia and the Greek Islands on the Italian MSC lines Musica The cruise departs Venice on the 1st of June and returns to Venice on the 8th. The return to Venice on the morning of Monday 8th then gives the group four days to tour the wonderful old cities of north east Italy including Venice, Vicenzza, Verona, Padova, Ferrara, Parma, Modena, Bologna, Revenna and Rimini. It has been our practice to arrive at the flying site the day before flying commences so as to register and maybe do some test flying. Lodging while at the contest may be at one of the sea-side resort communities along the Adriatic coast such as Lido de Nazioni. Other options will be available when the organizers prepare further plans.

Of course you may continue your European vacation after the meet too.

You may fly into Venice, Milan, Bologna and maybe other cities depending on your routing and point of origin. US Airways flies direct from Philadelphia to Venice and Milan.

The SAM Italia members will orgnaize the 6th European SAM Championships on the Valle Gaffaro Flying Field. Valle Gaffaro is on the river Po delta, north of Ravenna and south of Venice. A truly beautiful flying field which you may see on their web site; www.volodelta2000.net It was the site of the 4th Euro Champs held in 2006 when a good sized group of US competitors attended.

The official program has now been released.

Try the map from Google and search for Pomposa, Italy then click on Hybrid to get a view of the countryside around the flying site in the Po Delta region. Then zoom out and explore the surrounding towns and villiages. See how close you will be to so many interesting towns.

These events are mostly at least similar to the SAM International rules, but there are differences so please carefully read the complete model and competition rules.

Events and Rules

The European SAM Champs have been wonderful events with an attractive mixture of European countryside, International competitors and all around great company. Imagine the moveie "Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines" with Old Timer models and you won't be far off.

5th Euro Champs Champion, Heinrich Dabrowski has been busy building for this year's Champs. Here are his big diesel powered Texaco model, a scaled up "Under Construction" by Roll. The new 1/2 A Cox Texaco model is another of his favorite designs, Don Foote's Westerner.

So what next. If you are interested please contact webmaster Dave Harding or our "Team Leader" Ed Hamler and we will fill you in. The most important thing is to decide reasonably early as the late May and early June flights from the US to Italy get filled quickly and we don't know when the cutoff will be for cruise booking.
